Costume Gallery and Art Stone are Delanco, NJ based designers, manufacturers and distributors of dance costumes. We are seeking a Design Coordinator/Merchandiser to support the development of costumes by organizing the processes for fabric and sample development, acting as the liaison to other departments for open communication, and analyzing customer and sales trends in a merchandising capacity.  This position will support the merchandising and design functions to provide a bridge between customer and sales intelligence with product design.  Our successful candidate will have a degree in fashion design or merchandising and will have strong attention to detail, a desire to create collaborative work relationships and a interest to grow and develop their talents.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following, but not limited to:

  1. Product Design and Development
  • Help to develop concept/trend boards
  • Check specs of all designers for complete and accurate information, and assign style numbers.
  • Enter all info per style into the A2000 system and maintain the information as changes occur.
  • Copy and distribute all spec sheets as needed.
  • Maintain fabric board and binder to keep track of fabrics used and alert designers when close to exceeding the designated number of new fabrics allowed.
  • Photograph, label and keep track of photo samples after complete.
  • Collaborate with marketing and design on photo shoot prep and execution.
  • Prepare photo shoot list with info on styling direction to present product true to the brand and design vision.
  • Provide help with dressing at photo shoots

 

  1. Customer and Sales Research and Analysis
  • Prepare weekly bookings report to monitor sales trends of styles for analysis by Director of Merchandising and Design.
  • Work on assortment analysis of sales trends for the season.
  • Present sales trends findings on a regular basis to the design department during the height of the sales season. Advise trends with the customer perspective of end user.
  • Perform seasonal competitive research providing competitive landscape intelligence documenting assortment, pricing, product initiatives, and sizing for reference.

Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelors degree preferably in Fashion Design or Merchandising
  • Minimum of one year of work experience in a professional environment

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office, including basic Excel skills
  • Exceptional and demonstrated organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of A2000 helpful
  • Ability to convey costume ideas through sketches and specs
  • Working knowledge of the fashion design and product development process
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work on multiple products at different stages of development for multiple seasons simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within and across departments as well as with vendors and external constituents
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment particularly in interactions with vendors and coworkers
  • Ability to display a professional demeanor at all times

Physical Demands:

  • Required to sit, bend and stand for extended periods of time
  • Exposure to glitter, dust, fabric particles and feathers
  • Working on a computer for prolong periods of time
  • Light lifting required at times of 20 lbs or less
  • Domestic travel required
